The celebration of Christmas is and evolution in itself. Christians throughout history recognize the birth of Christ...take that and add it to other cultures 'winter celebrations' (along with numerous other things) and you get what we now celebrate on December 25th. It is a very interesting study in itself on how it evolved....but whatever, I myself along with countless others love that time of year, and whatever your beliefs I think for the most part it is a very positive and good thing for the human family in general....it's a magical time of year. But as a Christian, I find it a time to reflect on the great gift that a loving Heavenly Father has given his children...a Savior. I find it very strange that some 'christians' would put it down...even though a large part of what we now celebrate is very secular... so what ... for some non-believers it's a least opening the door on what Christianity is about without being in-your-face...and that can't be bad. People need to look at the good and value in things instead of dwelling on the negative. See if for it's worth.... I LOVE CHRISTMAS... and I don't think God thinks ill of anyone who celebrates it in any meaningful way (family's being together, etc.)...

My Story
by SmokeEater ini've been going back and forth between this board and other exjw boards, and decided it's time to put my story out.
i think it's theraputic in a way.... well a little background.

I enjoyed reading your story. I was never a JW and most of what I've learned about them as been from this board and a friend who is a JW. Just want to give you a word of encouragement from someone who has been down the road a little longer. Life is a Journey of Exploration. Learn from it, don't be dicouraged by it. There is an awesome God that created all the wonderful and positive things in this world and the universe. He is mindful of your journey. Seek and ye shall find... not in a day, month or year... it's a lifetime journey. Be open, positive and use Christ as your example...not judgemental, but always taking life step by step in a positive, self-confident and righteous manner. Doors will indeed open for you.

Anti-Cultists are a cult
by proplog2 ini don't believe in re-inventing the wheel.
arguments about atheism, chronology, trinity, evolution can go on forever.. i like to bring up positions that are unpopular on this forum because most of the people here have given up their examination of certain issues assuming that they have "now" got the real truth.. the lack of critical thinking that is the cause of involvement in off-beat religions can lead to gullibility in other areas.
the stupid knee-jerk accusations i got when i attacked the molestation issue is typical.

I know a lot of Mormons, and from what I've seen on this board, I wouldn't classify them as a 'cult' at all. Sure there beliefs are a little different than a lot of the Christian religions that can trace their roots back thru the Catholic religion, which claims it was the Church that Christ established. But there are many things they have in common. The basic belief that Jesus is the Christ, the only begotten Son of God, that salvation comes because of his atonement on the Cross. There are so many misconceptions of Mormons, usually from people who think they know alot about them, but don't really know many if any Mormons. After all, for a few hundred years, Christians were considered a CULT to put a negative conotation on them. As I said, I know a lot of Mormans...there are several ways they differ from what I've read about on this board re: JWs....such as: they don't shun, they think that is very Un-Christ like; they could care less if you visit some other Church, funeral, wedding etc. They are very open to discussing diffent views on relgion, are not threatened by differing opinions ... and if you don't show up for a while, they might check on you out of concern, but they don't carry a big stick threatening you with numerous labels...'bad association', 'apostate', 'wordly'.... Another thing I notice, they genuinely take care of their own and would give you the shirt off their backs. It's also interesting to note that Christianity itself has changed, not only from what we would think would be the Protestant Reformation, but Christianity from the first century was different than some of the Christian beliefs of the forth century. So for "Christians" to point a finger at others who belief that Jesus is The Christ and call them a 'cult' is ludicrious when in reality they could be called a 'cult' by the first century Christians.

It is also interesting to note in some circles the beloved disciple is thought to have meant Mary. In fact some people have reason to belive that the Gospel of John was written by Mary Magdalene.

Hey, I'm a neophite...clue me in (since I've never been a JW). What would happen if someone just said to the person... "You know what, thanks for your concern, but I've found something so much better, and I'm really happy. I've learn so much more about the true meaning of life and I'm now communing personnally with Jehovah more than I ever have. Everythings so much clearer now, things are positive and not so negative as it use to be. I now know where I stand with God and how he stands by me and is concerned with my Life. I just want to go forward, and feel that by returning I would be taking several giant steps backwards. Life is Great, you should try it."
So.........what do you think the JW trying to reconvert you would say?

Totally enjoying your writing. I have to agree with someone on the board who earlier mentioned how the Society can try to make you feel guilty by making the "Apostate" label stick. I think turn-abouts-fair-play .... Since I'm not a JW or Ex-JW, I think it would be fair for you guys to say that they're an APOSTATE Church.... and if you're an Apostate from and Apostate Church, that makes you genuine, real and true.

Micheal the ArcAngel/Jesus the man
by plmkrzy ini understand that a lot believe that micheal and jesus are one in the same some believe that jehovah and jesus are one in the same some believe that one is the son of god yadda yadda yadda.. would some of you please address or post your reasons for believing that micheal the arc angel was not gods first creation and why he couldn't be the one sent to us to be born as a man and become our savyor?
why would he not have another name fitting his role as a man on earth?
he obviously wouldn't be living on earth as a child growing up as an angel.

Near Death Experiences - How do JWs explain
by Double Edge ini'm not a jw, but it is my understanding that jw's don't believe in an immortal soul that passes on after the body dies...that when a person dies, they 'sleep' until called forth in the resurrection if they were found worthy.
is that correct?
if so, what do they think of the numerous documented near-death experiences over the centuries?

larc... what you said is true, but that's only one explaination. There are numerous experiences that science can't explain away as being induced by the brain, experiences where certain information was only obtained by being 'out of the body'... To those who have had those 'genuine' experiences, where science can't explain it away, the attitude seems to be 'if you'd experienced what I did, you would have absolutely no doubt, for those that do doubt, no real explanation would ever satisfy you anyhow because of your unbelief, so it doesn't matter..you'll know soon enough'. For me, I believe in them (not all, but enough). I just wondered how JWs accounted for them.
